I defy anyone to dislike Iris Van Herpen's work. Unconventional and forward thinking, everything she designs looks like something you'd dream up but never dare actually make. Except she does make them, and she does it beautifully. The shoes above from Spring/Summer 2011 display her signature futuristic style and form part of a limited edition set of 12 shoes made for her couture show.
Her newest collection, Voltage captures the same love of technology and and almost architectural approach to design, and in March 2013, she's set to show her first RTW collection in Paris. I can't quite see how anything she designs apart from the shoes could possibly be 'ready to wear', but I hope to stand corrected. Or maybe everyone will start sporting a Lady Gaga couture style with shoes higher than Jeffrey Campbell Lita's and dresses that require people stand a foot away from us due to its sheer width like this. Either way, she's one of the most exciting designers around at the moment.
