Lately I've been working on a few different projects and trying to complete a new addition to my Handbag Project which is really exciting. She's utterly gorgeous and I'd let you know who she is, except I don't want to ruin the surprise when it's finished. She likes lots of colour so I got together some colourful bits and pieces to inspire the drawing. And I also bought the latest LOVE magazine. It never fails to confuse me that every editorial within the magazine looks so much like an advert, but in a way it makes the whole aesthetic of the magazine look so coherent and streamlined. I've also featured the Harper's Bazaar: Greatest Hits book which is a complete wealth of fashion inspiration through the ages and something I use to inspire me when I'm feeling uncreative. I'm also having a severe case of failing to time manage everything I do in a consistent way lately. Can you relate? Most of the time I half complete ten things rather than fully complete five. I definitely need some tips!
Sharday's style is so fresh and clean. It's the kind of style that looks a little relaxed and simple but clearly has been put together by someone who ultimately knows how to arrange beautiful pieces. This is one of the reasons that she's my latest addition to The Handbag Project. With a role as associate buyer in Vancouver, Canada, she loves films, travel and Alexander Wang and clearly loves her sunglasses since they feature in so many of her photos! I wish the weather was that great in the UK that sunglasses could become one of my staples, but alas, it's probably more likely to be an umbrella. Anyway, just looking at her photographs makes me feel summery, and along with her outfits, the other items that she carries around in her Alexander Wang bag are Chanel Rouge Allure lipstick in Admirable, wallet, iphone complete with cute kitten case, and her Kiki diary. I've been ridiculously busy lately, juggling three jobs, designing things freelance, marketing/interning for a local (and absolutely beautiful) boutique so have completely struggled to finish any of my illustrative work. However, I recently finished one of my latest additions to The Handbag Project, which features the lovely Tamara from the blog The Glam and Glitter. I love reading her posts, especially since a lot of them are based in Brighton where I'm also based, and because her writing has such a lively tone to it. The list of objects Tamara carries around with her is absolutely huge so I made the decision not to try and fit every single object into my drawing. I'm also a carry your entire life in your handbag kind of girl, which usually results in bruised arms and tired limbs but I can't bring myself to leave my things at home because 99% of the time I'll need them (probably ...). Tamara quite fittingly made a 'What's in My Bag' video recently that documents the sheer amount of things she carries with her, which I think compliments the drawing, and gives you a little more insight to her likes and dislikes. Her Youtube channel is full of interesting insights to her life and she has an amazing accent so I'd happily just listen to her talk.
